Better Denim, Better Planet

A new, innovative process guarantees that denim is made while reducing water usage, energy usage, and less chemicals

For years, GAP has always been a leader and an innovator in fashion retail. Today, it continues to be the best destination for wardrobe essentials—from tees to denim, hoodies to great-fitting pants.

As one of the world's most iconic apparel and accessories brands, GAP ensures that these pieces not only look good on you, they make sure that they're made environmentally-friendly too. They care about everything that goes into the clothes, they've developed Water Quality Program and Washwell™.

The Water Quality Program was designed to ensure the denim is made in a way that protects local waterways and minimized impact on the environment. This resource-intensive process lets the brand producw denim using a waterless, indigo foam-dyeing technique that can reduce water usage by up to 99% while also using 89% less chemicals and reducing energy usage by 65%.

At a product level, GAP pioneered Washwell™ that reduces water use by 20% or more. Since the program began in 2016, Washwell™ has saved over 289 million liters of water—that's enough water to fill 579 million standard-sized water bottles.

Leveraging the power of product innovation and improved manufacturing practices, GAP helps ensure people not only look great in their favorite jeans and T-shirts, but also feel good about how their purchases are helping to make a positive impact for communities and helping to tackle global water scarcity.
