On May 19, 2019, Marks & Spencer Philippines general manager Catherine Tantoco Huang and orthopedic surgeon David Endriga said their “I do’s” at historic Sanctuario de San Antonio Church in Makati in the company of family and friends.
Here at Rustan's, we love weddings, so it was only right for us to feature this special occasion and two special people.
It was more than a decade ago when Catherine and David first met at one of the Tantoco family’s New Year’s Eve parties.
Catherine once said in an interview, “After we first went out, I thought to myself that there was a potential for a long-term relationship with him. I did not think about it further. Still, as time went on, I started seeing things in him that made me decide he was the one.” The rest is history!
The couple felt strongly there was no need to look far in order to find the perfect designer for their big day. The wedding attire featured an all-Filipino line-up of designers for both the bridal ensembles and suits.
Catherine was captivating in a beautiful gown by Jojie Lloren featuring a princess-line shape and paired with a modern interpretation of the Filipiniana jacket. It was made of callado piña, with a mix of appliques and delicate embellishments for added texture. Lloren also designed the gowns for the bridal entourage which were a special tone of pink piña, specially hand dyed for the occasion.
Criselda Lontok designed attire for the couple's mothers and godmothers, while Mel Meer of Bergamo provided the suits for David and groomsmen.
Following the ceremony, guests headed out for cocktails and canapés at Shangri-La at the Fort, at Bonifacio Global City, before settling in for a fun night at the reception. The grand ballroom with high ceilings and notable modern chandeliers was decorated in tones of light grey, pink and cream to match the entourage's pale pink and silver gray motif. Each table was dressed with fresh floral centerpieces that towered in white and pink along with candles, as coordinated by Rustan’s.
The wedding menu included cream of Norwegian salmon tartar, mushroom soup with crème fraiche, tamarind sorbet with vodka pipette, choice of char-grilled Australian Angus beef tenderloin or Chilean sea bass for entrée, and baked jaggery custard crème.
Cake designer Penk Ching created the couple’s stunning wedding cake, based on their wish of wanting simple but elegant and in keeping with the key colors.
After Catherine and David's first dance, cake cutting, and several touching speeches and toasts, one of the highlights of the night was David dedicating a moving cover of Billy Joel’s classic Just the Way You Are to Catherine, in which he sang and played piano. Clearly a man of many talents!
In addition, Catherine’s cousin Jaime Pineda sang a flawless version of Sunrise, Sunset. And opera stars Rachel Gerodias and Byeong In Park delighted everyone with Phantom of the Opera’s That’s All I Ask of You and with Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal - their special gift to the bride and groom. And Viva Voce performed a flash-mob style song stream in the midst of the evening.
The night continued with dancing, music, chattering and celebrating with a wide range of guests including the couple's closest friends and many family members and 98 year old Founder of Rustan's, Ambassador Bienvenido Tantoco, Catherine's grandfather.
