In 1920, Mr. Tan Soon Heng, a visionary with a deep passion for ceramics, recognized the boundless potential of clay and established his iconic ceramic company in Kuala Lumpur, marking the beginning of Claytan’s legacy.
A skilled craftsman with an unwavering passion for preserving the ancient art of ceramics, Mr. Tan Soon Heng, a Teochew native from Guangdong, China, founded Claytan in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. With creativity and innovation at its core, Claytan set out to improve the quality of life through its craftsmanship.
Today, Claytan stands as one of the largest ceramic manufacturers in ASEAN, exporting to over 35 countries worldwide. From producing just 50 pieces annually, Claytan now manufactures 7 million pieces a year. Despite this success, the company remains humbled by the fact that 4.2 billion people still lack access to safely managed sanitation. This challenge drives Claytan to continue its mission to enhance sanitation, create durable and sustainable sanitaryware, and strive toward achieving universal access to water and sanitation for all.
