For the love of beauty, Shawn Towne has worked his way from department store makeup brands, TV commercials, and runway shows to his current position as the Global Director of Education and Artistry at renowned makeup brand jane iredale.

We were fortunate enough to have a one-on-one with him about his recent Masterclass, the latest innovations from jane iredale, his deep understanding of color theory, and his expert makeup tips.

"We're not doing looks that are inspired by some runway or red carpet somewhere, or celebrities at jane iredale. Our looks are created by the consumer. It's about making people look like themselves, only more beautiful."

The consumers themselves draw the inspiration from all the looks Shawn creates. For him, it was always about empowering individuals to embrace their natural beauty and not make them look like someone else, but bring out the best of them.

The key technique he wants the everyday consumer to remember is to avoid creating unnecessary heavy makeup looks. "Most women have more natural beauty than they give themselves credit for," he emphasized.

Shawn’s commitment to helping women achieve a healthy, radiant look with makeup has been a driving force throughout his career. His work at jane iredale serves as a testament to this passion.

This approach reflects his color theory when creating looks. He believes that many women have more color options than they realize. To help them choose shades that bring out their best features, he typically begins by considering their eye color, skin tone, and hair color.

"When when we're looking at color analysis, when we're choosing colors for people to wear, my recommendation is don't limit yourself to the colors that you're familiar with.
