Making Nails to Art
We are getting all the hype for nails this 2022. And not just polished and long nails but a generation of blinged nails thanks to its strong present in mass media; both music and lifestyle, and social media. Not just sported for show, now trend-savy women in their teens and those millenial adults are vying to have artsy long nails as well.
Words and Art by Nana Valdueza
The latest nail looks have come their way locally and we are just more happy to see these strong women sporting a strong nail-dentity. Part of this movement is ELINAILS.CO, owned and founded by Elina Jung, a young Korean based here in the Philippines. An instagram cult followed by up and coming trendsetters, whom you may have seen her works on all the biggest publications, fashion mavens, music videos and big names—ELINAILS, as we call them is just getting the hype it deserves.
MORE FROM ELINA
THE BEGINNINGS OF ELINAILS
The lockdown period and the pandemic caused a seismic shift to the nail industry in the country. But for Elina and her brand in the making, it was an opportunity. Elina was into gel nails in 2012, doing manicures on her own like any woman and helping friends and family with their own. An artist in the making, her nails became a favorite whenever she posted them online. Soon DMs flocked her Instagram account and all that was left to do was to build ELINAILS.CO. Since then, she created her nails with press-ons, and was suprisingly a hit during the pandemic. It was having beautiful nails all over again but sans the contact from your nail artist. You get "snatched" nails in an instant.
PRESS-ON NAILS AND NAIL ART
There is hardly any difference between the two, yet for press-on nails, you get an artificial canvas other than your nails, which are the "press-ons" or acrylic nails. Advantageous as well, since the nail art stays than having it done directly on your nails. Elina quips, "You can just glue or stick it onto your nails and your are good to go!"
The founder of this budding business is still a college student herself, but ELINAILS is nowhere going but just up! For Elina, aiming to be an all-around artist for nail art is the goal. Still no words to identify her succesful growth and the brand she created, we can only find out why this art form is becoming a buzz through her latest creations.
INSPIRATIONS
"When working on a creative set, I think of hundred of ways to execute the initial idea that I have in mind. I dont limit my ideas with just one specific style or theme. For me, I want to be an all-around nail artist that can portray any type of design."

ELINA'S CREATIVE PROCESS
Inspired by Korean nail artists @nail_unistella and @sojinails, Elina aims to be an all-round nail artist in the Philippines. Like any other artist, she works with enthusiasm on every piece she creates. "24/7," she said of only having nails on her mind and the ideas that inspires her, from patterns that she sees around her—shoes, walls, plants, mushrooms, paintings, hair clips, and the weirdest possible. She perfects her piece with a good amount of trial and error before creating something unthinkable and new. Her love for nails has just grown much that she would love to keep the satisfaction of her pleased clients and the happiness to create her nail arts, bottled and treasured.
MY FIRST NAIL ART
Press-on nails are Elina's suggestion for people who cannot commit to having permanent nail art. For some, work restrictions or just being in school prohibit them to have long nails, moreso fancy ones. It's also a good choice for those wanting to try having long nails but is afraid to commit. Press-on nails are simple stick-them-on-and-keep-them-for-later; they are a breeze for those who still ponder having long nails but would fancy trying to rock them at times. Elina's tip for those who want to go this route, "Having cuticle oil is key after having their nails done. It is really important not to have a dry cuticle area afterall."
THOUGHTS OF AN ARTIST
"Nails have NEVER been just a phase or a trend. It is a form of art just like paintings. Whenever I'm making nails, it takes a lot of process to make one from scratch and I'm creating an art work, its just that its not on paper but on nails."
